About

BUZZCUT.

■ Our Mission

BUZZCUT Literary hopes to kindle the sparks of self-expression and change while also serving as a reminder that everyone should be allowed to present their authentic, best self: whether through haircut or through language. At BUZZCUT, we’re interested in work that is unapologetically exposed and/or exposes. Send us literary confessions that illuminate and reverberate towards truth(s). Send us your introspective, your striking and surreal, your quietly courageous, your embarrassing—any work that isn’t afraid to try probing the unapproachable. In particular, we’re excited by work that warps, questions, and tears through the repressive layers of systemic power imbalances and societal expectations. We love everything from experimental form to sestinas to prose poems to ghazals to whatever is needed for conveying what you want to bring to light.

BUZZCUT is dedicated to publishing the voices of the underrepresented, marginalized, and silenced; as such, we actively welcome submissions from all demographics but especially encourage submissions from youth, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ writers. By helping carve the presence of people too often overlooked into the world through language, we aim to unite and amplify the words of those that have—for too long—been dismissed, as well as encourage all individuals to speak out. We believe in accessibility; this reflects in our commitment to never charging submission fees, welcoming of previously published and simultaneous submissions, as well as our offering of free feedback to BIPOC, youth, and LGBTQ+ demographics.
